25th September 1999 - Fletchertown Social Club

A third visit to Fletchertown Social Club inside 12 months. We really are starting to fit in well here, the audience are coming along specifically to see WIPEOUT and we always get a great reception. We all felt rather rusty after our short break but even taking that into account we went down well. The new PA speakers cirtainly proved their worth here. Last time we played at Fletchertown we still had the old set up and we had real feedback problems well before we could get any realstic volume from the vocals. With the new JBL's we could get as much volume as we wanted. Even the monitoring was excellent with Charlie having to turn his monitor DOWN mid set (totally unheard of previously)

2nd October 1999 - The Railway Club

A first visit to one of the best known clubs in the area. An excellent, large stage made our job more pleasant and a very friendly approach from the staff made us feel welcome. The audience thoroughly enjoyed WIPEOUT's style of music clapping and singing along with all of our songs. A welcome visit by Pete of local band the 49'ers to see us made the night special, he really paid the band some compliments, always sweeter from a fellow musician. Unfortunately he informed us of the demise of the 49'ers due to ill health, a sad loss of a band with a good amount of popularity in the area. A very long second set meant that we played well over the normal the 45 minute sets and we ended up playing for over 2 1/4 hours.

23rd October 1999 - Haltwhistle Golf Club

Very unusual gig in many ways for us. This was the first outing of the new PA gear and it was noticable, what a difference in sound quality, excellent. The facilities at the venue were excellent with a great stage, a great room and excellent changing areas, the equipment was set up we were ready for the soundcheck and.......OH...FLAT!! the room was dead! It didn't matter what we did the sound was dead from where we were standing. This put a damper on the night for us as we ALWAYS want our audience to hear us at our best, however, reports back from the audience were very encouraging so it would appear that the sound reaching them was all OK!

We shared the bill with "North East Comic Of The Year" Sue Sweeney, a very professional commideienne who put on a magnificent show which went down a storm with the audience on the night. For those who live within the range of BBC Radio Cleveland listen out for Sue's show each Sunday.

As previously mentioned we were using the new mixing desk which was really needed as the amount of microphones and inputs used on the night was rediculous, not only were we all miked up but we also provided the sound for Sue's radio mic and minidisk, further to this WIPEOUT provided the disco too. Yes DJ BeeJay did a full hours disco spot straight after the show (never say WIPEOUT are not versatile).

6th November 1999 - West End Social Club

Not a huge amount to say about this gig, it went very well!! Charlie set up with his kit fully miked for the first time and it made a huge diference. The overall volume was not lifted a great deal BUT the attack from his kit made the bands sound really blossom. Unfortunately we did not put foldback monitors out for anyone except Charlie, this was a deliberate attempt to see if we really did need them or not, we did!! BeeJay has a new mike, a radio headset mike but this was used by Charlie for this gig as there was just too much new going on for BeeJay to use it. Halfway through the second set came the fun and games, this was an old stage setup and I think that Marconi himself wired it. Just before 'I saw her standing there' saw us standing there with no power!! never mind, a few seconds later the fuses were fixed and we were off again

13th November 1999 - Penrith Golf Club

A welcome second visit to the members of the Penrith Golf Club, this time at the Roundthorn function suite. We were playing to a lot more people than the last time as this was their Presidents evening and a superb event it was too. Dinner Jackets and Evening Gowns were the order of the day. We had a few problems with feedback from the monitors due to the acoustics in the room but overall it was an excellent night. We were tighter than we have been for a few gigs and a real enjoyment came into the performance for us. It's always difficult to know how you will go down at any particular gig. At the Haltwhistle Golf club night the audience were very similar in makeup but were not dancers at all, here they danced the night away. Many thanks to Martin once again for making us so welcome

4th December 1999 - The Coach House - Heads Nook

Second time at this venue this year and this time it was upstairs in the main function room. First the problems...BeeJay lost his voice...a bit of a problems for a lead singer. Most bands would have cancelled and left the function in the lurch, not WIPEOUT, we altered our set a little to bring in more instrumentals, we dropped a couple of the more strenious songs and we pumped BeeJay with so much hot honey & lemon that sweetness was his middle name...and we did a show!! This was a great night for us, we were playing to christmas parties and almost all women!! Now the thing with audiences who are mainly women is that they really do know how to party!! and WIPEOUT gave them something to party at. We played an absolute blinding set and got some real praise at the end, so if anyone asks next year if we want to play at their christmas party then you can guess what the answer will be!!

18th December 1999 - The Liberal Club - Carlisle

Once again it's a second visit to a venue and once again it's better than ever!! We put a few new twists into the show this time and they worked a real treat. A new introduction to the sets and a few new turns inside the set made for a superb night. The real good thing about second appearances is that word spreads, if you were bad last time then forget it, if you were good then you can be sure that the audience will be twice as big, twice as loud and twice as receptive, WIPEOUT always seem to get the latter and it's marvellous for the band...and the audience

8th January 2000 - The Conservative Club - Penrith

The first gig of the new century and what a gig it was too. It's a difficult time of year we are continually told because people have partied themselves out and have no money left, and how could you possibly succeed after the biggest party of all time...the millennium? Well believe me there was no lacking from the people who came to see WIPEOUT at this gig. Many of the audience had came along specially to see us and they wanted to party. True, it was not the biggest audience that we have had here but it must rate as the best! This was also the most sophisticated PA setup that WIPEOUT have used for a solo gig, not loud but clean and balanced! The band were having real fun too, so much so that we absolutely flew through the first set actually underrunning by a minute or two it was so high intensity, we made up for it on the second set though by playing for a full hour and a half

20th January 2000 - The Mercury Lounge - Carlisle

First time at this new and modern venue in Carlisle's city centre. A particularly happy gig for the band with the owner being a great friend of ours. The audience was not huge in number (still only January after the worlds biggest New Year party!!) but they did want to have fun and so did we. Problems prevented us from having a soundcheck and so we went on "cold" but after the first song we were settled and going for it. A pretty young audience meant that we could relax our style to suit and so the volume went up, just a little ;-).
This is only a small venue but with one of the most spacious stages we have ever played on, it was fantastic!! We would have benifitted by having a full soundcheck though as the quality of our sound was not up to it's usual high standard. Unfortunately the night was over far too fast and we had to drop a couple of numbers from the set as we would have been playing all night!

12th February 2000 - The Villiage Hall - Thursby

A second visit to a worthwhile charity event. It really is amazing how some places get a lot of support for these events and others next to nothing, last year we played to a couple of Vallentines events where the turnout was sparse to say the least with Thursby we were once again impressed at just how many people come along to suport this here. We were working to some very tight time constraints which meant that we could not perform our full set (even with this we still over ran) but the audience loved what we did and we loved playing for them. This was the first airing of the bands new light show and a big difference it made too.
