"A consummate professional", "Sheer entertainment", "A marvellous show", "He made our night". Praise indeed but heard often from audiences at a Brian James gig. The difference between a normal performer and a true professional is enthusiasm, commitment dedication and pure hard work. Brian has all of these qualities and more which means that you can always rely on a great performance from Brian James. Born in Wallsend in the North East of England Brian was introduced to music from his earliest days. The house was always full of instruments, guitars, trumpets, flugal horn, piano, accordian. His Father was an accomplished musician playing soprano, alto & tenor sax along with clarinet. Raised on a diet of Classical music, classic rock & roll, the Beatles and Cliff & the Shadows his background is varied and deep. An impromptu guitar lesson from Hank Marvin at 4 years old set a pattern of guitar playing which lasts to this day. On leaving school Brian started working at the infamous J.G. Windows music shop in Newcastle coming into contact with some of the best musicians from the North East of England. In this period Brian was playing bass in several local bands (see list below) 12 years in the RAF took Brian to pastures new and he found himself in the Outer Hebrides in demand for playing support gigs to several bands coming in from the Mainland. A final posting to Cumbria meant a new place to call home and a new place to set up a musical base. A period of travelling to Newcastle to play in bands over there started to take it's toll and so in 1996 he decided to set up his own band, Wipeout, by this time Brian had switched from Bass to Lead/Rhythm Guitar. This departure meant the Brian was back in the hotseat fronting the band. In 1997 Brian was the founding member of the North Lakes And Borders Guitar club, getting Albert Lee to officially open the club and present the formation certificate to Brian. The club set up ties to such people as Martin Taylor, Peter Green, Jerry Donahue, Eddie Allen, Tommy Emmanuelle, Maddie Prior and Rick Kemp. In 2002 Brian decided that he it was time to go it alone again and so formed the duo, "In 2 Deep" along with keyboard player Matt Knibbs. At the same time he re-launched his solo career after a long period in bands. Today Brian is one of the hardest working musicians in the North of England/ South Scotland with a packed calendar and a strong reputation for professionalism and entertainment. A showman through and through his reputation for reliability and sincerity are second to none and audiences pick up on this from the moment that the curtains open. His charisma shines through every time he stands in front of an audience and his voice shines through every time he sings.
